Hi Julie
I am writing regarding the Proposed Wind farm at Crook and I wanted to raise two points-
Firstly on Coronation Power's own website under the Tab Site Selection , it states that there are four areas where wind farms are not allowed to be erected *National Parks * Ministry of Defence Low Fly Zones.
The other two are-
*Designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Special Protection areas and sites of Special Scientific Interest *Designated Archaeological Sites
I am not sure what is actually required to become designated ??????
My second point is that Coronation Power have for some reason decided not include the Manchester Archaeological Studies Unit in their Site Assessment Proposal, although it is well documented that the Manchester Archaeological Studies Unit have undertaken studies in this area in the past.
I am left wondering why they have not been included or consulted in this assessment and feel that this has been deliberate.
Also how anyone who has ever visited this part of the world could not consider Crook to be an area of outstanding Natural Beauty.
I travelled from Australia to visit this area two years ago and it was definitely one of the best experiences that I had on that trip.
The hills and moorland here are very unique and breathtakingly beautiful .
Not to mention that there are ancient burial grounds of archaeological importance and remains of old farms in this area which are of significant local historical importance.
I think it is a very sad day that the current owner has seen the dollar signs in his eyes and I hope that common sense will prevail at either council or government level and that appropriate intervention takes place as this beautiful area needs protecting .
Also that the general public be made aware that there are important archaeological sites are in this area.
When I visited England and Wales in 2005 , I saw a number of wind farms across the country which made the landscape look so ugly and ruined the natural beauty.
Trusting you will follow up with a spot for all to have their say on this issue on your website- I am definitely in the "Against" category.
Perhaps the voices of our ancestors can be heard through us- please speak out against this proposed monstrosity destroying a beautiful landscape !!!!!
Regards Alison French
